Places to Visit in Harrogate this Summer

Here’s our summer ‘tick-list’ for must visit attractions!

If you’ve opted to stay in the UK this summer, good choice! There is a host of great things to do in Harrogate, from theatres to spas, tours and gardens; there is something for every interest.

Rudding Park Roof Top Spa 
Long summer days are best spent on the Roof Top Spa and Garden! Get your friends together for a relaxing day lazing in the Hydrotherapy Infinity Pool or unwind in the Herbal Bath Steam Room. Come rain or shine, the Roof Top Spa is always open.

Harewood House 
This 18th Century treasure, located a stone’s throw away from Rudding Park, has art collections to rival the finest in the land. Exhibitions of contemporary art, renowned Bird Garden and over 100 acres of exquisite gardens are ready to be explored at your leisure.

Harewood House was recently used as a major set for ITV’s Victoria series. To celebrate the success of the programme, the opulent rooms on Harewood’s State Floor have come to life with costumes from the programme. You can view the outfits worn in the series, including the beautiful Coronation gown, until Saturday 29 October.

Afternoon Tea on Clocktower Terrace 
You don’t have to travel abroad to partake in al fresco dining… the large south facing Clocktower Terrace at Rudding Park offers a stunning space for you to relax, whilst enjoying the timeless classic of Afternoon Tea. Why not add a little sparkle to your summer and upgrade to a Champagne Afternoon Tea?


RHS Harlow Carr 
Summer is full of gorgeous blooms! You can see the best of the bunch at RHS Harlow Carr in its spectacular 68-acre Yorkshire garden with beautiful borders, wildflower meadows, woodland and water.


Harrogate Theatres 
The bill of shows at the Royal Hall, Harrogate Theatre, the Studio and Harrogate Convention Centre rivals the West End! One not to miss is Madam Butterfly by the Russian State Opera, on at The Royal Hall on Wednesday 30 August.


Royal Pump Room Museum 
The Royal Pump Room was built by Isaac Shutt in 1842 to provide shelter Harrogate’s affluent visitors as they took to the famous waters. At its peak, each summer the Pump Room attracted 15,000 people.

Today, visitors can look down into the Pump Room’s basement where they can see an 18th century stone well-head, treatment baths and machinery. Go along and enjoy a piece of history!


Spirit of Harrogate 
Discover gin in a private setting with a tasting package from Slingsby Gin: The Spirit of Gin, The Cocktail Master or Just the Tonic.

Each experience gives you the chance to enjoy a different activity; you might participate in gin tasting, learn how to make a range of cocktails with a mixology lesson or explore the history and evolution of gin.

Slingby Gin uses botanicals from the Rudding Park Kitchen Garden so you may even sample some of these when enjoying the drink.

If you can’t make the Spirit of Harrogate Experience, you can try Slingsby Gin at Clocktower.


Kitchen Garden Tour 
Open daily from May to September, Rudding Park Kitchen Garden houses over 100 different herbs, salads, edible flowers and fruits. Guests can come along and explore, or organise a Kitchen Garden tour with Head Gardener, Adrian Reeve, so you can enjoy the Plot to Plate experience.


Newby Hall 
This 18th century country house, situated beside the River Ure, contains a collection of furniture, paintings and precious artefacts. The grounds boast extensive herbaceous borders and woodland walks.

Now in its eleventh year of residency at Newby Hall, Matombo Sculpture with Dudzai Mushawepwere and Matthew Nakhawale will be taking the opportunity to introduce the rich artist culture of Zimbabwe to new audiences throughout June, July and August.

Stockeld Park 
Stockeld Park House is a beautiful Georgian Mansion set in magnificent Yorkshire parkland designed in 1763 by the celebrated architect, James Paine, who also designed Nostell Priory and the stables and famous bridge at Chatsworth.

Popular with families, Stockeld Park is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic on the grass.


River Nidd Riverside Walk 
Grab your walking boots and enjoy some fresh Yorkshire air! This beautiful riverside walk in Knaresborough takes you through a wooded gorge before crossing the Nidd Viaduct, and returning to Knaresborough through the countryside around Old Bilton.

Whilst walking, look out for a variety of wildlife such as tawny owl, roe deer, woodpeckers and herons on the water.

If walking isn’t your style, hire a rowing boat and enjoy a leisurely ride along the river.

Enjoy a Round of Golf 
Rudding Park Golf Academy offers golfers every opportunity to practise their game. Book in advance to take advantage of private tuition from our PGA Professionals, alternatively visit the driving range for some individual swing practise.
