Decisions & deliberations

Once you've decided to get married, the fun of organising the wedding starts!

Things to discuss with your partner

If you've not already got an idea of the kind of wedding you and your partner would like, it's good to have a chat and make sure you're on the same page and that you include anything that's a key element.

You should consider:

  • The scale of wedding - intimate, grand or somewhere in between
  • What time of year you'd like to get married - are you hoping to be sun kissed or for winter cosyness?
  • The budget you have - including any contributions from family
  • Any items or people that are key - if there's a family wedding ring that's been passed down or you've always wanted to arrive in a particular car it's good to make your partner aware early on in the process so they can be factored into the plans for the day.

Decisions to make
In addition to the above, you'll need to think about your guest list and the style and theme of your wedding - whilst few weddings go so far as to have a costumed theme, most couples have an idea of whether they want a traditional or modern event. You may also want the colour of bridesmaids' dresses to be reflected in or co-ordinate with the colour of the groom's party's waistcoats, suit linings or cravats.
