Proposed Golf & Country Club
Replacement of Existing Golf Club
Building on the parameters set by the outline planning permission technical work on the proposal for the Golf and Country Club is now well advanced. In recent months pre-application discussions have taken place with North Yorkshire Council and Historic England. The feedback received from Officers and Historic England has been positive and has been used to inform the preparation of a reserved matters application.
The internal plan layouts have been developed to allow the main components to be placed with the correct locations and adjacencies.
The proposed country club works on predominantly 2 storeys, sitting on a footprint of approximately 3,460 m2, with a substantial part of the lower ground floor lost within the terrain. The subterranean element houses extensive plant requirements together with back of house servicing including ‘goods in’ and refuse collection, and changing facilities all completely invisible from within the wider landscape. Of the visible element of the lower ground floor, this serves largely as the golf members entrance, access to the 1st Tee and return from the 18th green, a gym, spin area and two studios, members bar and golf shop.
The upper ground floor provides the main entrance for all other guests leading directly to two restaurants and gym facilities that shares changing rooms with the internal and external pools. Given the nature of these facilities, extensive external terraces are provided to allow the restaurants and pools to have a very ‘inside / outside’ feel.
The roofscape is heavily planted, taking design cues from the completed spa building and, very much like the spa, includes a setback, transparent rooftop bar and flexible space to work in tandem with the landscaped roof terrace. Orientation and location of the internal uses take maximum advantage of the views and sun path, whilst being sensitively screened by an existing mature tree line. An exhibition tee is also included.
With reference to proposed materials, the proposed building is grounded with dray jointed Yorkshire Gritstone stone which will be split faced and regularly coursed in random lengths giving a solid base feel, changing to a much more light weight upper floor using naturally patinating bronze cladding and glazing.
The CGI images show the views of the proposed Golf and Country Club from various views surrounding the site.
It is anticipated that a reserved matters application will be submitted to North Yorkshire Council at the end of April 2026.
